This is a semi-synthetic opioid antagonist and analgesic that, as the later, is up to 40 more powerful than morphine. It was introduced primarily to reduce craving for opioid addiction but is, itself, high addictive.

This drug is less addictive than methadone and has a longer window of effectiveness, however, it does produce euphoria which has lead to the widespread abuse of this drug. Drug abuse testing for Buprenorphine can be both to see if it is being abused but also to insure that an individual is actually taking this drug once prescribed (and not reselling it on the street).

Other variations of this formulation are the brand names Subutex, Suboxone (typically used for opioid addiction), Temgesic, Buprenex Norspan and Butrans (transdermal preparations used for chronic pain).

Street names are coined bupe, subs, subbies, and orange guys.

Screening for this is available on our on-site devices and via our laboratory services for drug abuse testing kits
